About
Living Away
AN ARTISTS PLATFORM
Living Away is a new initiative created in NYC to support international artists. Our intention is to create events that provide a place for experimentation in live arts practices and the development of a community that involves the creators and the audience. This platform is an open space for collaboration, the nurturing of networks and provides assistance in the development of art projects.

Living away wants to celebrate human mobility beyond the limitations of borders and nationalities. It is a place for international artists to join and explore together the potentialities of their different practices and personal stories and share it with local and virtual communities located outside the reach of traditional programming institutions.
Based on those core values, Living Away is always transforming and finding new formats to facilitate exchanges of artistic practices.

In August 2019, Living Away made an agreement with Unique Projects, a fiscal sponsorship program run by Pentacle. That agreement provided Living Away of a non-profit status that allows the platform to receive tax-exempt donations. At its core, Pentacle believes in the unique and critical role the artist citizen plays in our democracy, and that art and artists inspire people in many communities to understand, articulate, and seek to attain their highest aspirations for the world.

Gabriela Burdsall

is professionally trained in a wide variety of dance styles which has resulted in a unique approach to movement and choreography. Her work combines dance and movement with other domains such as visual art, technology and language. She graduated from the University of the Arts / ISA in Havana and was a lead dancer at Danza Contemporánea de Cuba from 2007 to 2015.

William Ruiz Morales

is a performance-based dramaturg who has combined artistic creation with cultural activism by developing platforms for artists interested in socially engaged experimental performing arts. He graduated from the University of the Arts in Havana / ISA and completed the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels.
They have conducted joint workshops on listening as a creative practice. Their work is frequently based in collaboration with artists from a multiplicity of backgrounds and disciplines. Among their recent credits are “On Truth. A Lecture by the Idiot”, “Story of O”, “∑2n Ensayo de Duración” and “Circa Planeta”.
